Financial aid distribution

The seminary made its winter distribution of financial aid, with grants totaling $151,730. The average award was $1,418 per student. This is a slight decrease of $64 per student over last year’s winter distribution. The decrease is due to a lower overall demonstrated need of the student body.

In the 2009-2010 fiscal year to date ending December 31, 2009, gifts in the amount of $277,851 were immediately available for distribution, while $34,738 was given in permanently restricted gifts.

It should be noted that the financial aid distributed by the WLS Scholarship Fund represents only a portion of what students receive. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to foundations such as Siebert and Salem as well as to other scholarship funds and to many congregations within our synod for supplementing what we do.
