Winterim 2012
Students returned January 9th for Winterim — two weeks of elective coursework both on and off campus. Variety in Catechism Teaching, Evangelism Styles, The Worship Space, and Biblical Aramaic were some of the courses taught on campus. Several WELS pastors also took advantage of Winterim as an opportunity for continuing education.
For the eighth year, students and professors traveled to Mexico for the Spanish Immersion Cultural Experience (SPICE). To qualify for the SPICE trip, students must have the equivalent of two years of Spanish language study. The experience includes an intensive one-week language course at the Spanish Institute of Puebla with four hours of instruction each day. Students also visited cultural and historical sites and spent time in fellowship with Mexican pastors and seminary students of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mexico. The focus of the program is preparation for ministry to Latinos and Spanish-speaking populations.
Students enrolled in the Practical Experience in Urban Outreach or the Leadership Skills Enhancement courses traveled to Texas and Florida for their off-campus coursework.
